Date: Friday, February 6

Ernie Hendrickson has been playing guitar and writing songs about the human condition and how we relate to each other for decades. He’s got several area shows lined up, at Space and Fitzgerald’s, but at Molly’s House Concerts you’ll enjoy a listening room experience where the focus is on the music. Ernie honed his skills during a stint in Nashville and then returned to Illinois, where he fell in love, married, and had two daughters. All of that has affected the songs he’s written, such as Mothers and My Friend, Roll On, which often play like movies to me. Gerald Dowd, who often plays drums with Ernie on the road and in the studio, is the person who suggested that Ernie Hendrickson would be a good fit for my house concert series, and he’s right. Listen to (and watch the video for) Dystopian Dreams, and RSVP for Ernie Hendrickson on Friday, February 6.

Roll On (Ernie’s latest record) explores the physical landscape of Ernie’s home turf, and it also gives him room to make connections between the physical and emotional – not to mention moral–aspects of life in modern America. Roll On is about growth, and Ernie doesn’t discount his time in Music City, which brought home deep insights about his identity as a Midwestern musician who loves Nashville’s blend of country, folk and rock. Call it a learning curve for a crafty guitarist who can rip it up with the best in the country, and a songwriter who has never stopped striving to express himself in the most intelligent, concise and moving way.” – Edd Hurt
