Corky Siegel is a Chicago legend. His professional music career began when he founded the Siegel-Schwall Band in Chicago in 1964 with guitarist Jim Schwall. The group was a major component of the young generation of white blues artists, including Paul Butterfield, Charlie Musselwhite, and Michael Bloomfield. Back then, he was a regular at Pepper’s Show Lounge and played alongside Muddy Waters and Howlin’ Wolf. He’s recorded his work for labels Vanguard, Wooden Nickel/RCA and Alligator. Corky pioneered blues-classical fusions. In 1973 the band released Three Pieces for Blues Band and Symphony Orchestra on the prestigious classical music label Deutsche Grammophon, and Corky then continued to innovate with classical maestro Seiji Ozawa. Corky Siegel’s first solo album is classic blues. after which he focused on collaborations with chamber musicians and international performers. Corky’s wife, Holly, notes: “Corky is coming to Molly’s House. She must be very special. He performs at SPACE, City Winery, Old Town School, Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center, Symphony Center, and Molly’s.” Here’s Corky playing Counter Intuitive Op. 24 Part 1 , which blends blues with chamber music and Indian percussion.
