Date: Saturday, March 30

The Waco Brothers have been playing music together for more than three decades. Chances are good that you’ve heard of them, or even better, have seen them live. Self-described as The Clash meets Johnny Cash, IYKYK (if you know, you KNOW) how much fun a Waco Brothers performance can be. Despite my Chicago heritage, I was not aware of the band until several years ago. On the Outlaw Country Cruise, I was happily on my way from one end of the ship to another when I passed through the area where the Waco Brothers were playing. WHAT is that chaos onstage??!! I found friends up front, completely immobilized and slack-jawed due to their music and energy, and never made it to the other show. I can’t even remember what I planned on seeing, but a “sea change,” if you will, occurred and from that point on, I had to see every show they did, and likewise, every solo show by Jon Langford and Dean (Ramblin’ Deano) Schlabowske, both of whom have played at Molly’s House Concerts. Comprised of Jon Langford and Dean Schlabowske on guitar and lead vocals as well as songwriting, Tracey Dear on mandolin, Dan Massey on drums, Jean Cook on fiddle, at this show, John Szymanski will play bass instead of Alan Doughty, who is on tour with Jesus Jones.

“The Waco Brothers’ songs pack an explosive combination of punk and honky-tonk that’s best experienced at the group’s live shows.” – WXPN, Philadelphia NPR station, which went on to describe The Waco Brothers’ performances as “driven by spontaneous energy that helps annihilate the barrier between performer and observer.”
